We can all make a few frank admissions about Florentine fashion: the Renaissance city doesn’t dictate style codes quite like it used to. ‘Tuscany’ and ‘trendsetting’ aren’t often used in the same sentence. Even the most outrageous of the Pitti outfits can’t really compete with Parisian panache.
But everyday street style? That’s one of Florence’s strengths. It’s easy to spot the influencers, the head-turners you mistake for models-off-duty. Sometimes, though, local style looks a bit more subtle. It’s the scruffy-chic barista who took time out to cuff his jeans, the international student who arranges her flea market finds just so, the nonno in the gently beaten blazer and leather loafers. Elke’s photographs capture the casual elegance of everyday dressing in Florence like few others.
