La Scuola del Caffè, Europe’s first centre of excellence centred on coffee, has opened in Florence.

La Scuola del Caffè was inaugurated on October 1, on the occasion of International Coffee Day. Housed in a coffee shop open to the public and run by Simone Amenini, the academy aims to spread coffee culture as well as being a training centre for young professionals and a meeting spot for coffee lovers. The school is located in the former monastery of Sant’Ambrogio, where Ditta Artigianale opened in July in via Carducci.

“This new cafe, which focuses on the culture of coffee, will serve to improve the decorum of this area,” Dario Nardella, Mayor of Florence, declared. “But this is not just a cafe, it is a coffee training centre. This is the first coffee school in Tuscany, a place that gives young people more skills in the catering and tourism sector.”

Co-founders of Ditta Artigianale, Francesco Sanapo and Patrick Hoffer, also revealed the company’s plans to open new lo- cations in Canada and the United States. The new Ditta Artigianale is open for coffee, pastries and signature cocktails in the evening and the coffees are also available for purchase at www.dittaartigianale.it.
