New life is brought to Dante Alighieri’s The Divine Comedy on the occasion of the 700th anniversary of the Supreme Poet’s death. The exhibition titled Dante: The Eternal Poet by Felice Limosani is a digital interpretation of the engravings by Gustave Doré that accompanied an 1860s edition of Dante’s masterpiece. The illustrations have since appeared in many publications, but are now getting a large-scale digital rendering for the Pazzi Chapel of the monumental complex of Santa Croce, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in the magnificent artworks that will be on display from September 13 to January 10, 2022.

Creativity meets technology in the digital humanities, with the internationally renowned Felice Limosani an expert in the practice. Based in Florence, the artist brings Dante’s message into a personal, emotional and spiritual experience within Brunelleschi‘s architecture. The space is filled with rich choral music that swirls around visitors as they take in the words and works, centuries after they were created.

Mayor Dario Nardella commented, “Dante’s wonder is that, as he has shown us this year, his work and his legacy remain alive and relevant. Today, we are pleased to inaugurate an innovative cultural project that the artist Felice Limosani has strongly desired to create in our city, a project that combines new technologies with the refined aesthetics of Gustave Doré’s engravings”.
