Find calm and culture at Serre Torrigiani
An hour of theatre and music inspired by ideas of openness, diversity and cultural investigation focus on the theme of love. Actors Stefania Rocca, Jacob Olesen, Marco Gambino and Véronique Nah will read various works including texts by Plato and Lou Andreas-Salomé, poems by Federico García Lorca, Emily Dickinson and Rilke, and letters written by Napoléon Bonaparte to Joséphine Beauharnais, Vita Sackville-West to Virginia Wolf, and Mark Twain to Livy. Musician Eugenia Barone will perform on the double bass. Three young artists take part in a residency project at the Cartavetra gallery in via Maggio. The contemporary art gallery will be open for studio visits on July 15, 29 and August 26, ahead of the final exhibition from September 2-10. Artists Gianluca Braccini, Claudia Di Francesco and Jonathan Soliman take part in the ENTROPIA project in collaboration with the Eterotopie association and Galleria Cartavetra. The term Entropia comes from the ancient Greek en (inside) and tropé (transformation), meaning creating order from disorder. T: 39 3400792997.

Let it all out
200 people scream from the rooftops of some of the city’s well-known sites in a project by the artistic collective Kinkaleri, in collaboration with Fondazione Stensen. Screams, shouts and roars will reverberate around the city, amplified by megaphones, releasing our collective pandemic-related tension. The Tower of San Niccolò, Forte Belvedere, Porta Romana, the headquarters of the Stensen Foundation, and the tree-lined terrace of Hotel Kraft are the selected sites for the screams.

Delight in dance
The second edition of the SITE festival of dance and music takes place from July 19 to August 31 across the parks, villas and gardens of Florence and Settignano. From contemporary dance to Dante-dedicated pieces, this week sees ‘Puss in Boots’ performed for children aged 3-8 in Villa Vogel at 9pm on July 20, with a Dante focus at 7pm on the same day and in the same place. ‘Antigone’ will be performed at Villa Strozzi’s Limonaia at 9.15pm on July 19, with a whole range of other performances to discover here.

Curated by Lucia Mannini with Eva Francioli and Stefania Rispoli, the rooms on the second floor of the museum fill with a solo cycle dedicated to the major 20th-century artist. A participant in many noted exhibitions and prized among private collectors, the show looks at the links between the artist and Tuscany, with intriguing works such as a bronze Ulysses from 1935 and the exceptional Woman Swimming Underwater made from Carrara marble on display.
