The Artisan Quarter Association works to support and preserve culture and art in the Oltrarno. Known for its bottegas and artisan workshops, this quarter of Florence has long been associated with the handcrafted treasures its denizens produce. With encouraging signs of a subsiding pandemic and the start of Pitti Uomo in June, Florence is preparing for the return of tourists and optimism is running high. All of the artisans in our association are preparing for busy times ahead.

Giuliana in her atelier on via Romana

We are pleased to introduce Giuliana Becattini as our featured artisan for June. In her BeGiuls atelier on via Romana, not far from the Pitti Palace, Giuliana specializes in dressmaking and women’s fashion. Giuliana’s passion for aesthetics and creativity was nurtured by her like-minded father and grandmother. From an early age, Giuliana loved drawing and designing to bring her concepts to life. She began sewing her own clothes, which were met with admiration and enthusiasm from her friends. This inspired her to study fashion design and then launch her own brand: BeGiuls.

Final touch: the BeGiuls label

The name, pronounced “Be Jules”, conveys her brand ethos of being yourself. The BeGiuls brand combines Giuliana’s passion for handmade craftmanship with her unique twist of detail and timeless style. “My designs are all extensions of my ideals of fashion; clothes for everyday life, but also pieces that will be favorites for years. When your designs appeal to people, there is a special connection. You put part of yourself into everything you make.”

A classic: the Tippi ring neck dress

Giuliana’s creations are all made and sized in her Florentine atelier, cut and sewn by hand from natural and locally-sourced materials. Visible stitching, either tone-on-tone or with contrasting colors, highlights the sartorial construction of her designs. They are the realization of her vision to create exclusive pieces made with passion and a love of details.
