A post-lockdown holiday destination surrounded by nature, the five-star luxury hotel Borgo Santo Pietro is reopening on May 14.
Danish owners Jeanette and Claus Thottrup are ready to welcome back guests with everything that we’re currently craving: contact with nature, outdoor experiences and a secluded stay with luxury service in southwest Tuscany. Think a forest gym, hiking trails and river swimming.
Established in 2001, nature and luxury flow seamlessly together at Borgo Santo Pietro, featuring 22 exclusive suites with private gardens and pool villas, 300 acres of estate, three restaurants with alfresco dining options, an exceptional holistic spa with the exclusive Seed to Skin skincare line and treatments, and new wildness experiences to meet the needs of travellers this summer. Additionally, a new herb house offering herb courses and aromatherapy workshops will be new for 2021.
Physical distancing has never been a challenge at Borgo Santo Pietro. “In total respect of the legislative in place, Borgo is ready to welcome new and old friends,” Claus reassures. “Here social distancing and ample space are part of the experience. There were only a few components that we had to adjust to make our guests’ stays more in line with the new duty of care, but we have managed to balance this with the luxury experience that travellers are looking for and our guests are accustomed to.”
To facilitate and ensure guest health and safety, there’s even the opportunity to receive COVID testing and the Fit to Fly PRC test on site. Claus continues: “People are ready to travel and want to feel reassured to fully enjoy their stay. This is why we have carefully thought through each and every element of their time at Borgo; we not only offer an escape to nature, but also luxury services including a flexible cancellation policy and onsite COVID testing.”
Borgo Santo Pietro is also a working estate and farm with two acres of vegetable gardens and a food laboratory that supports the local community year-round. For the past 20 years, the estate has developed into a self-sufficient organisation using local experts to develop the day-to-day farm activities such as milking, cheese making and shearing wool from their own sheep.
“For us, sustainability is something strictly linked to the way we live and affects the surrounding area in which we are. Between the farm and our Seed to Skin laboratory, we employ around 30 people year-round and the last 18 months have not only affected us but also them as well,” Jeanette explains. “We want to open to give a positive sign to the market. We are all in this together and together we can make it happen.”
The link to the community is key and gives an additional layer to the sustainability efforts the property has in place: Borgo Santo Pietro will be removing all single-use disposable plastic in the upcoming season.
