Covid-19: Tuscany to enter lockdown

Fri 13 Nov 2020 5:42 PM

On Sunday, November 15, Tuscany will become a “red” zone, which is effectively a lockdown situation similar to the spring, although infant, primary and the first year of middle school education will be guaranteed. As stated on the Italian Government website, “Without a valid reason to go out, it is mandatory to stay at home, for the good of everyone”.

What red zone restrictions will be in place in Florence and Tuscany from November 15?

  • Shops will be obliged to close, with the exception of food stores, newsagents, pharmacies, dry cleaners and hairdressers. Banks and post offices will remain open.
  • Eateries (bars, pubs, restaurants, ice-cream parlours and bakeries) may only continue to offer takeaway until 10pm and home deliveries (no time limit).

  • You may only leave your home for work, necessity or health reasons. If you leave your home and are stopped by the police for a check, you must be able to justify your reasons using the self-declaration form and show a form of ID. If you are unable to do so, you risk a fine of up to 400 euro (which is reduced to 280 euro if paid within 5 days) and, in extreme cases, criminal charges, and even imprisonment on the grounds of false declaration.
  • You are not allowed to visit or meet relatives or friends.
  • It is recommended that you work from home, where possible, or take annual leave. If you have to go to work, you must show adequate documentation from your employer to justify your movements as well as a form of ID and the self-declaration form.
  • Returning to your home or place of residence is always permitted.
  • You may only exercise individually on foot or by bike in the vicinity of your home.
  • You are permitted to leave your home to care for a family member or a friend who is not self-sufficient.
  • Separated and divorced parents are allowed to move between municipalities to see their children if they are minors, in observance of the health regulations in place (taking into account quarantine, positive cases and the immune-suppressed).
  • Only infant and primary schools, plus the first year of middle school, will remain open.
