Bernardo in Florence

Andrea Marchi welcomes locals and internationals looking for quality craftsmanship and chic pieces.

“We first visited Bernardo, looking for a particular linen fazzoletto da taschino, and were amazed at the vast selection of stunning pocket squares in every conceivable color, fabric and pattern,” explains Richard Jacques, a regular visitor to Florence from Greenville, South Carolina. “Soon Andrea became known as ‘The Pocket Square Man’ to our friends, as everyone visiting Florence wanted to know where to buy the gorgeous fabric complements to a suit pocket. The boxes are bought from hidden storage and piled high on the counter, where one is allowed to go through box after box of exquisite pocket squares, much like a child in a candy store.”

In addition to a multitude of pocket squares, Bernardo has been selling the best men’s tailored suits since 1983. Expertly crafted silk and cotton shirts are complemented with garments by leading Italian brands such as Incotex trousers, Cantarelli and Lardini jackets, Fedeli sweaters and Herno coats.

“Andrea’s face lights up with a huge smile when we appear, and we reminisce about previous visits and years gone by,” continues Richard. “I wrote to him several months ago, and he sent a kind and thoughtful response. We are looking forward to our next visit, and will surely find one more pocket square or shirt that cannot stay behind in Florence!”
