After the temporary closure of all museums and cultural venues, in accordance with nationwide legislation issued on March 8, the civic museums of Florence have launched a social media campaign called #museichiusimuseiaperti.

The initiative is the brainchild of MUS.E, which works to enhance the city’s civic museums. The campaign, which follows similar initiatives from the Uffizi Galleries and Palazzo Strozzi, marshals modern technology to allow people to enjoy exhibits via Facebook, Instagram and YouTube, with educational elements aimed both at adults and children.

From today, MUS.E will start using these media to reveal the secrets of the museums involved, namely the Palazzo Vecchio, Museo Novecento, MAD Murate Art District, the Bardini Museum and the Santa Maria Novella complex. The project includes workshop videos to inspire parents to try handicrafts with their children.

The project is not limited to one hashtag. #MyAllanKaprow, for example, will take you behind the scenes of the temporary exhibition at the Museo Novecento, through the eyes of curator Sergio Risaliti, while #Dentroimusei offers a range of video clips on all the museums taking part.

“At the moment,” commented Matteo Spanò, president of MUS.E, “we are unable to welcome and show you around the extraordinary beauty of the city of Florence. All we can do is continue taking care of you through the special media that the situation requires of us, and to bring the wonders of our museums to your homes. This is our role, now more than ever.”
