Pitti is about to make an active return to Florence this month. From January 10 to 13, 2017, the Tuscan capital will take a dynamic approach to fashion with the theme of dance for the 91st edition of the renowned fashion fair.

The designers

British designer Paul Smith will be the guest star of this Pitti with a show on January 11. He was the first to present his collection at the newly unveiled Stazione Leopolda in 1993. New Yorker Tommy Hilfiger returns to Florence showing his new collections and launches a new online store project at the Fortezza da Basso, while Z Zegna is set to become the younger brother of the Milanese menswear brand Ermenegildo Zegna thanks to new creative director Alessandro Sartori. Tim Coppens will be Pitti 91’s menswear guest designer, with the young Belgian exhibiting his streetwear style on January 11. The sportswear theme continues with an event starring Italian brand Golden Goose’s glittering deluxe sneakers and partnership Cottweiler for Reebok to blur the lines between high fashion and sportswear.

The collaboration continues between the Pitti Palace and Pitti Moda following last year’s success with the popular Karl Lagerfeld exhibition.

This year, the Andito degli Angiolini exhibition space at the Pitti Palace will enjoy an older, more local flavour. One hundred pictures, from the 1930s to the 1970s, from Florentine firm Archivio Foto Locchi archives will bring the city’s fashion past into the present with a look at artisan companies, celebrities and history-making shows. The exhibition goes hand in hand with the reopening of the Pitti Palace’s White Room as the setting of a fashion show for the first time in 16 years. On January 11, Florentine luxury men’s fashion label Stefano Ricci will show their collection to buyers and journalists.

More art will come from Milanese Fornasetti as the designer invites guests to Florence’s La Pergola Theatre for three special performances (January 10-13) of Mozart’s Don Giovanni to the sound of original period musical instruments. For more information on tickets, click here.
