#PISA
PUM Factory Festival
December 7–10

pum-factory-festival

Do Dostoyevsky proud: shake up the holiday season with a visit “underground.” Pisa Underground Movement Factory hosts four days of art exhibitions, workshops, performances, live music and DJ sets, all fitting with PUM’s stated purpose of promoting “the free circulation of ideas”. The fun kicks off with a mega-party at Lumiere Pisa (vicolo dei Tidi 6) on December 7. A preview will take place on December 1 at Leningrad Café: Florentine electronic formation Telematik Guru will take the stage. For the full program, see the website

#LUCCA
Sip and Supper…the Natural Way
December 7, 8pm

Web

Breathe some fresh air into your sipping habits this season: the biodynamic wine movement is taking off in Lucca and we at TTT are taking that as our cue to drink up. Join us at Mecenate (via del Fosso 94) for an indulgent come-and-go evening: numerous producers who make up the newly-official Lucca Biodinamica association will be on hand with their wines. Guests can learn more about the sustainable practices they employ—in a casual, non-intimidating atmosphere, perfect for wine newbies—while also sampling four delicious regional dishes. Cost is 25 euro, all included. Confirm your attendance here.

Salvador Dalí: Between Dream and Reality
Until February 5, 2017

Salvador Dali's work in Spain | Photo by Ron Frazier on Flickr

You’re not imagining things: Tuscany does indeed have Dalí fever. In piazza del Duomo, the City of Pietrasanta and Fondazione Versiliana recently inaugurated a sculpture exhibition spotlighting some of the trailblazing Surrealist’s creations, from the miniscule to the monumental. The main attraction for casual fans is Dance of Time I, which depicts a melting clock, perhaps the object most immediately associated with the artist.  But a highlight is a collection of Dalí’s crystal sculptures made for the Daum studio in Nancy, France.

#PRATO
Kiss Kiss Band Band
December 1–3

Tuscany’s ever-burgeoning music scene has an impressive number of established names as well as stars on the rise. See emerging musicians spotlighted in this three-day showcase at Officina Giovani (piazza dei Macelli 4), put on by Fondazione Toscana Spettacolo and the City of Prato, highlighting some of the key players uncovered through the Toscana100band project. Acts all have regional roots and are under 35 years old. Don’t miss King of the Opera (December 1), the new project from Alberto Mariotti, which already made waves at San Miguel Primavera Sound Festival in Barcelona. Learn more here.

#TUSCANY
Toscana Gospel Festival
December 10–January 1, 2017

harlem-voices-1

Joyful voices will ring out all over the region with the return of the Toscana Gospel Festival, taking place in historic theatres from Livorno to Florence. Among the headliners are The Harlem Voices, a group headed by renowned actor and performer Eric B. Turner and hailing from East Harlem, New York (they’ll have shows in Prato, San Casciano in Val di Pesa and Castel Fiorentino). A more Southern sound will take the stage when the Louisiana Gospel Psalmsit give a year’s-end performance in Marciano (AR). For the full program of concerts, see the website

#SIENA
Mercato nel Campo
December 3–4

siena-mercato-nel-campo

A historical re-enactment for the ages, this festive Christmas market in Siena’s most iconic square can turn any Grinch into a believer. Pop by piazza del Campo to enjoy a recreation of a medieval marketplace, but spilling over with modern treats: think regional delicacies like Cinta senese and cold cuts, Tuscan wines and truffles. Indulge your sweet tooth with holiday favorites like world-famous panforte and ricciarelli, and browse through craft stalls set up by local and regional artisans. View more information on the official Facebook page.

#AREZZO
Christmas City
December 3–26

lux-arcana-arezzo

This winter wonderland will give Santa’s workshop a run for its money. Sure, you’ll find festive-season favorites like a Polar Express-inspired train, plenty of presepi and elves galore, but this is more than a traditional holiday village. In addition to spirited scavenger hunts and kids’ karaoke, look out for a labyrinth, a peppering of puppet shows and even some sand art performance from Ghibli (also known as Tuscan artist Giulia Rubenni). For the full schedule and a map of locations, see the website.
