HERCULEAN/Never Seen BeforeUntil January 31, 2016Reali Poste degli Uffizi, piazzale degli Uffizi, Florence

Things get mythical this month at the Uffizi in an exhibition dedicated to none other than Hercules himself. This is the fifteenth edition of the gallery’s famous I Mai Visti series, which takes place each winter and brings forth works that are generally kept in storage. Curated by Francesca De Luca, this year’s show is a must for mythology fiends: check out archaeological finds, paintings, drawings and a range of other depictions of the ultimate ‘Alpha male’ over time. The show is open Tuesday–Sunday from 10am–5pm.

STYLE/Pitti Uomo 89January 12–15, 2016Fortezza da Basso and about town

It’s that time of year again! La Befana has come and gone and now the proverbial ‘boys’ are back in town—the world’s male tastemakers will descend on Florence for the winter edition of Pitti Uomo, the renowned menswear and accessories showcase. Parties and shows are strictly for the VIP set, but prepare for outrageous people-watching, fashion star sightings and countless opportunities to land on international street style blogs. The 89th edition’s theme is Pitti Generation(s), playing with the ideas of agelessness, nostalgia and cross-generational fashion. A rare Pitti-linked public event is taking place in via Pandolfini 20 from January 13–15: from 5–10pm, check out The Promised Land: A RelentLess War, a Nicolas Poussin-inspired installation from an emerging German designer. emmabardini

ART/Vestire ad Arte. Tribute to Emma BardiniUntil February 22Bardini Museum, via dei Renai 37, Florence

Emma was the elegantly dressed daughter of the antiquarian Stefano Bardini, whose impressive collection is housed in the eponymous museum. Emma’s enviable wardrobe has been lost, but Mario Nunes Vais’ photographs of her fashionable tendencies inspired this exhibition, which features 43 outfits reflecting shifts in style from the 1920s up to the 1980s. Celebrated collector Beatrice Albrici is behind the choices, which include numerous accessories and decade-defining dresses. Part history lesson, part personal tribute, the exhibition is open from 11am–5pm Friday–Monday. More details here.popup
