VISIO. Next Generation Moving Images at the Strozzina runs concurrently with Lo Schermo dell’Arte film festival, which focuses on art in cinema.

Featuring work by a dozen video artists, all under age 35 and hailing from Germany, Greece, Cameroon, Nigeria, France, Holland and Italy, among others, the show looks at the numerous technological and cultural developments that these artists have witnessed in their short lifetimes.

The diverse works reflect the transition from analogue to digital, the pervasiveness of the internet as both an artistic and a cultural force, and the development of new video technology. Visitors to the exhibition can compare a range of formats, from multi-channel video installations to single monitors.

One work from French artist Rebecca Digne zooms in on a single face in a portrait-like video that is reminiscent of Jan Vermeer’s Girl With a Pearl Earring. Fellow French artist Émilie Pitoiset’s work The Third Party takes on a completely different format and narrative, peppered with film noir touches and references to classic cinema and ballet.

On Thursdays throughout the exhibition, explore the video art medium in greater depth with Italian and international guest speakers. The show runs until December 20, 2015.
