The Leaning Tower of Pisa will be bathed in blue on October 24 to mark the 70th anniversary of the United Nations.

Spotlights will illuminate the world’s much loved monument as part of the Turn the World #UNBlue initiative, presented at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.

Other iconic structures around the world will be included in the initiative, namely the Sydney Opera House, the Pyramids of Giza, Rio de Janeiro’s Christ the Redeemer statue, New York’s Empire State building and Japan’s SkyTree Tower.

UN spokesperson Stephane Dujarric commented, ‘The idea is to unite citizens all over the world and to promote the UN’s message of peace, progress and human rights.’
