From September 26 to October 4, Palazzo Corsini will host the 29th Biennale Internazionale dell’Antiquariato di Firenze, the largest antiques fair in Italy and one of the most important in the world.
Beginning in 1959, the fair originally looked to spread awareness and knowledge of ancient Italian art not only through painting and sculpture but also through furniture and furnishings, creating focuses accurately representing Italian taste and lifestyle. The first fair was attended by the then President of the Italian Republic Giovanni Gronchi.
Since its inception the Biennale has grown in importance and popularity. Featuring 79 antique and modern art merchants from around the world, showcasing the best paintings, sculpture, engravings, furniture and books, this year’s fair is set to have, “Yet more quality and more global coverage in order to confirm the largest, most qualified and fascinating showcase of the great Italian artistic tradition,” affirmed Fabrizio Moretti, the new Secretary General of the Biennale. “To be without rivals in Italy and to look to equal the most important sectorial events in the world, today is not sufficient…We want to be the most qualified and comprehensive showcase of the Italian artistic tradition.”
