Since the dawning of 2015, Fiorentina have been a roll, having not lost a game in the New Year. The Viola has won seven out of their last ten matches in all competitions, with three draws. On Sunday, they took a difficult journey up north to face Inter Milan.
In a game that had tons on the line, both teams came out firing. However, as the teams began to settle in, it was Fiorentina that dominated play having the better of the chances. Samir Handanovic was put to work early on by the opposition making some key saves early in the game. The best chance of the first half came ten minutes before time when Inter captain Fredy Guarin rang his effort off the post.
The game would limp into half-time 0-0. What looked to be a promising first half severally dipped in form as the game rolled on.
Ten minutes into the second-half the visitors found a breakthrough. Handanovic poorly handled Manuel Pasqual’s cross and substitute Mohamed Salah pounced on the rebound and smashed it home. Salah had only been on the pitch for a short period of time, replacing the injured Babacar a few minutes prior to half.
Inter would go on the offensive for the rest of the game in search of the coveted equalizer. Unfortunately for the home side, Fiorentina’s defense and Neto were up to the task. La Viola held on to grab all three points.
Due to the loss by Napoli, Fiorentina currently sit in 5th place in the Serie A. Three points adrift of the last Champions League spot. Fiorentina will look to continue their great run of form when they take on rival Juventus in the first-leg of their Coppa Italia matchup.
