A week removed from Fiorentina’s emotional home win against Atalanta, La Viola took a trip up north to clash with upstart Sassuolo.

Unlike the previous game, Fiorentina started this game off on the right foot nearly scoring two minutes into the game. Sassuolo’s keeper Andrea Consigli was called into action early denying Fiorentina chances on multiple occasions. Unfortunately for Consigli, Fiorentina’s constant pressure would pay off after 30 minutes of play. A sensational backheel flick from Khouma Babacar sprung new signing Mohamed Salah who calmly beat the keeper by slotting the ball into the far corner. Not even two minutes later, Salah would return the favor by setting up Babacar who doubled the Viola’s lead by powering home a low shot.

Fiorentina would keep their foot on the gas as they entered halftime still leading by a score of 2-0.

Much to the dismay of the home crowd, Khouma Babacar scored his second of the night as he beat an offside trap and calmly finished a David Pizarro cross. Sassuolo would muster a consolation goal as Domenico Berardi scored a looping header in the 67’. Fiorentina dominated in every facet of the game from scoring and possession, to tackles won and shots on goal.

Fiorentina have been on a good run of form lately and they will need that to continue as they suit up for a battle with English Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur on Thursday in the Europe League. As far as their progress domestically, Vincenzo Montella’s men sit only four points behind third place Napoli, having closed the gap by three points this weekend. Fiorentina will play their second game in four days as they take on Torino at home on Sunday after their clash with Tottenham on Thursday.
