A new crowdfunding campaign has brought for the first time a selection of original artworks from Milan’s 600-year-old cathedral across the Atlantic. Hosted at Eataly, the Italian speciality food store in Manhattan, the exhibition, entitled Eataly per Duomo, features a collection of pinnacles, gargoyles and statues that have been temporarily extracted from the Gothic-style cathedral for the rare showing stateside.

Unveiled on October 14, in the presence of Eataly founder Oscar Farinetti and Milan mayor Giuliano Pisapia, the exhibit is free to see at the Eataly New York City (NYC) location through May 2015 and features a number of important artworks and architectural elements, including a statue of Santa Lucia, an image of the Holy Virgin Mary and a selection of unique gargoyles.

The Eataly NYC exhibition was organised to promote the crowdfunding campaign, Do You Duomo?, launched to finance the restoration of the St. Francesca Cabrini spire of the Milan Duomo. The goal is to raise 45,000 dollars by December 22 and a total of 180,000 dollars by May 1, 2015, the opening date of the Universal Exposition in Milan.

At www.foritaly.org, international patrons of the arts can donate between 2 to 2,500 USD dollars to support the conservation, protection, restoration and enhancement of the Milan Duomo, including its over 135 spires and 3,400 exterior statues.
