Today, November 25, the world comes together to stand against violence against women. The International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women has not been forgotten here in Florence.
The city offers a day full of activities and the launch of a new Startup project: Florence for Women, with the goal to create an ‘social empowerment network’. The brand is hoped to become a mark of solidarity for all associations which fight for this cause. Thanks to the collaboration work with the luxury shop, Luisa Via Roma, the brand will become a permanent feature and available to purchase from today onwards.
This morning, after a round table discussion at 11am in Palazzo Vecchio, women, from the Artemisia charity group, will cycle around the centre of Florence on bikes given to them by Piedelibero for the occasion, spreading the word about the new brand, Florence for Women.
A series of photos from Clara Vannucci will be on display in The HUB (via Panciatichi 10-14 at 1pm). They were taken while she was in the female prison Rykers, New York in the section for women who had committed crimes due to being victims of violence.
At 3.30pm, head to the Flo Concept Store (Lungarno Corsini 30-34/r), where there will be a sort of open-air workshop and a tea tasting (donations welcome) from the female charity group Nosotras.
The ‘fashion show’, at l’Educatorio del Fuligno is next up: 5pm, via Faenza 48. Women from the Nosotras Association take part to in the spectacle, metaphorically tracing the path of liberation for women who have been victims of violence.
To finish off the day, a special cocktail is on offer from Luisa Via Roma. As the heart of Florence for Women, woman from all walks of life can come together and be united by the new brand and its message.
