The lineup for the 2015 edition of Florence: Art for a Year has just been announced. Many of Florence’s most prestigious museums, including the Bargello, the Accademia and the Uffizi, will take part in the tenth installment of the program.
The year will start off with Gherardo delle Notti’s Most Bizarre Paintings and Merry Suppers, which will be showcased in 15 different rooms of the Uffizi from February 10 to May 24. Famous for his representation of ‘night light,’ Notti was well-liked in Florence, with the Medici purchasing four of his canvases.
In spring, from March 20 to June 21, the Bargello will celebrate its 150th anniversary by exploring various aspects of medieval civilization. The exhibition The Middle Ages on the Road will include works of art, but will also spotlight objects used in travel and everyday household life.
The year’s first exhibition at the Accademia will also focus on the Middle Ages—more specifically, the Franciscan movement and its influence beyond the West. Masterpieces of Art and Asian Lands From the 13th to the 15th Centuries will run from March 30 to October 11.
The Palazzo Pitti’s Museo degli Argenti will be hosting Lapis Lazuli: Blue Magic from June 9 to October 11, highlighting the Asian-imported stone frequently found in major masterpieces.
The Uffizi’s summer exhibition will be on from June 22 to September 27, and will present the eccentric Florentine painter Piero di Cosimo’s work from the 15th and 16th centuries.
At the Palatine Gallery, from June 30 to November 15, artistic and religious aspects of 17th century Florentine life will be explored through Carlo Dolci’s painting.
From November 19 to April 3, 2016, Palazzo Pitti’s Modern Art Gallery will showcase an array of artworks and furnishings that once belonged to King Victor Emmanuel II during his residence at the Palazzo Pitti. The exhibition is titled Florence, Capital City 1865-2015.
Finally, Carlo Portelli: A Painter of Some Worth will close out the year at the Accademia. Running from December 14 to April 17, 2016, the exhibition will focus on this Florentine painter and his endless quest for elegance.
