Painters and writers are invited for an afternoon of outdoor elf-directed art-making in the lovely, poetic setting of Stibbert Park. The event is not aimed at children. Artists and writers should bring their own supplies.
The meeting point is outside the museum entrance at 2:30pm.
Following our creative time in the garden, there will be an impromptu outdoor “exhibition” and reading from 5-6pm to which all visitors to the park are invited.

LECTURE/CULTURE/ Sexy David

Prof. Victor Coonin, author of The Florentine Press’s book “From Marble to Flesh. The Biography of Michelangelo’s David”, will give a talk entitled “The Sexuality of Michelangelo’s David”. Find out why the famous statue has often worn a fig leaf and how his body has become on one hand a symbol of Italy, and on the other, a symbol of the LGBTQ community. At 6pm, before the talk, the group is invited to visit a newly designed room at the Anthropology Museum dedicated to South America.

The Faimarathon is a cultural rather than sporting event which takes place all over Italy on October 12, 2014. It’s a chance to walk, along with thousands of others, and discover more of Italy! Rediscover the beauty in areas you may walk past every day, yet fail to notice. The walk is organised in stages and you can join wherever you would like!
To see the full itinerary and time slots, see the website. In Florence the walk starts on via Michele at the Botanical Gardens and ends in the Biblioteca Riccardiana in the stunning Palazzo Medici-Riccardi.
CINEMA/ Where’s the popcorn?

This week, the Odeon Cinema has an array of original sound screenings lined up. The French film, Party Girl screens until October 12 and tells the story of an ageing nightclub hostess who decides to settle down.
The American film Joe runs from October 13-15 and a special screening of Abel Ferrara’s film, Pasolini, takes place on October 9 at 9pm; the story of the great Italian film author and poet. Also, don’t miss the One Direction film and a Spanish black comedy.

All Day in Florence and all over Italy in various museums
Calling all families: don’t miss the National Family Museum Day, 2014!
Various museums around the country are organising special activities designed for children. In Florence, Palazzo Strozzi offers family packs for children to explore the Picasso exhibition and in Palazzo Vecchio, children can dress-up in sixteenth century costumes and have the chance to paint their own fresco! Activities are generally free, but reservations are required.
