The streets of Florence turn into an artistic playground on October 25 with the Aeolian Ride. The cycling course around the city will be nothing short of intriguing when participants don their special inflatable costumes. The bike ride, started in New York by artist Jessica Findley, has now made it to Italy where the public become inflatable sculptures on bikes. The event is free and you can sign up via the website. Helmets can also be requested for free.

CINEMA/ Film fest!

Opening this year’s 50 Days of Cinema , the Festival dei Popoli, International Documentary Festival will screen two documentary films, filmed 55 years apart from each other, marking the 55th edition of the festival. The first, from 2014, entitled Examen d’Etat, from Congolese director Dieudo Hamadi, portrays the stories of high school students in the Democratic Republic of Congo about to sit their leaving exams. The second, Moi, un noir, directed by great documentary-maker Jean Rouch in 1959, tells the story of three young Nigerians who have left their country to look for work on the Ivory Coast. MODERN ART/CULTURE/ Contemporary courtyard

This new modern art project takes the form of four site-specific installations within the courtyard of Palazzo Strozzi, which will be on display until January 25, 2015. Involved in this artistic endeavour is artist Franco Menicagli, the group Kinkaleri, the duo Bianco-Valente and the collective from New York, CHERYL. The contemporary art gives the public the chance to rediscover the inside courtyard space as something dynamic and fresh and has given the artists scope to create works in an ‘open-sir studio.’ http://theflr.net/pauchb
EXHIBITION/PAINTING/ Alfredo Serri
October 25–January 18, 2015. Ente CRF exhibition space, via Bufalini 6, Florence
The Modernist Realist painter Alfredo Serri, best known for his sensibility to realism and nature will now have his work displayed in Florence. For the first time, 80 artworks from the painter are exhibited, mainly coming from private collections. A previous violinist for the Pergola Theatre orchestra in Florence, Serri then turned his attention to painting, becoming a master of chiaro-scuro. The exhibition is open from Mon-Fri, 9-7pm and Sat-Sun, 10-1pm/3-7pm. Free entry www.entecarifirenze.it

Travel beyond the city boundaries of Florence to Marradi for the annual chestnut sagra on October 26. Enjoy all things chestnut: chestnut jams, cakes, filled pasta, roasted and sugared, accompanied by live music and other events in the town.
