If creativity and crafts are your cup of tea, you won’t want to miss this three-day market in Florence. Florence Creativity has creative stalls with everything from scrapbooking to stencilling, patchwork to papier-mâché and much more. Demonstrations and mini craft courses take place throughout the market and there will also be competitions for the best cake design, scrapbook and patchwork quilt. CINEMA/ 50 Days of Cinema
October 30–November 2. Odeon Cinema, piazza Strozzi, Florence
France Odeon kicks of the festival proceedings with a selection of the latest French films, highlighting works from Alain Resnais. Resnais’s latest work, Aimer, boire et chanter will welcome the leading actresses Sabine Azéma and Caroline Silhol, and producer Jean-Louis Livi, to discuss the film after the screening. At Florence’s Istituto Francese, on November 2, there will be a chance to meet and hear from the critic Jean-Luc Doulin, author of the biographic book, ‘Alain Resnais’. There will also be a photographic exhibition from Kate Barry, portraying 25 shots of French actors and actresses. See the website for more details.

November 2. Galileo Museum, Florence
The Galileo Museum offers 90-minute educational activities (in Italian), which are a great way for both adults and children (6 years and older) to visit the museum, along with a guide, to help them better understand both the functions and historical importance behind scientific developments. On November 2, take part in a workshop about Galileo’s scientific instruments at 3pm, followed by a show of images created in a camera obscura to explore light and lenses. EXHIBITION/PAINTING/ The Spectrum of Light

Paul Jenkins has made a name for himself as one of the major figures in twentieth century art. In Jenkins’s work, colour takes centre stage, taking on a power which initially seemed non-existent. The 70 works on canvas and paper, which complete this exhibition, are the fruits of very precise and accurate work from the artist and portray his intense style of painting. His works will be exhibited in two locations in Prato, the Galleria Open Art and the Museum of painting and murals.
