First things first: karaoke is a serious business in Italy. It may prove a challenge to wrestle the microphone out of the hands of the semi-professional and perfectly groomed soprano in charge of the evening.

You should also bear in mind that a sober Italian audience might not find your rendition of Dancing Queen as amusing as lively revellers do in the United States and elsewhere around the world.

That aside, Florence offers several opportunities for a good old karaoke night.

On Friday and Saturday nights, grab a pizza at La Rotonda (via il Prato 10–16, 055/2654644), before regaling a restaurant full of diners with your version of Italian and English hits.

Italy’s oldest American-style bar, Red Garter (via dei Benci 33–35r, 055/2480909) hosts a karaoke night with DJ sets on Friday, Saturday, Tuesday and Thursday nights.

Other popular karaoke venues include Uncle Jimmy’s (via dei Pescioni 5r, 055/0192435) on Wednesday nights, and Kiwi Karaoke Bar (via Fratelli Bronzetti 12d, 338/4690306), Tuesday through Sunday, near the Fiorentina soccer stadium.

Come along to the TF karaoke meet-and-greet night on February 12, 9pm, at Red Garter, via dei Benci 33r.
