The final portion of the ongoing Authenticity: Beloved Places: A 50-Year Journey in Florence and Its Surroundings exhibition series explores Florence’s future through the lens of its past. Titled Firenze: Per il Futuro di Una Difficile Eredita, the exhibition was designed and organized by engineer, architect and architectural restoration theorist Marco Dezzi Bardeschi. For several months across various venues, the Authenticity series has explored themes related to urban design and the evolution of Florence as a city.

Throughout the exhibition’s final installment, which opens February 14, visitors can view architectural plans, learn about the urban topography of Florence and discover how the city’s historic places have changed over time. The show also sheds light on past problems the city has confronted related to urban development and changing city models. Current projects and plans are also presented, displayed in a manner that pays homage to major architectural and artistic masters of centuries past.

Dezzi Bardeschi does not shy away from focusing on unresolved urban problems. By revisiting the challenges of the past half-millennium, the exhibition encourages visitors to think about how to confront those of the next.
