Fiorentina suffers
a draw in Bari

The day before
the February 27 match against Bari, head coach Sinisa Mihajlovic said that the
players had the ‘right attitude’ for the game. The team arrived in Bari to play
the lowest ranked team of the Serie A, hoping for a win. After 21 minutes of
play, captain Riccardo Montolivo passed the ball to striker Alberto Gilardino,
who scored a goal to put the Fiorentina in the lead. The Fiorentina defense kept
Bari from scoring until the 87th minute, when Bari striker Abdelkader Ghezzal
scored his first goal since arriving this season. With only a few minutes left
to play, the Fiorentina were unable to score another goal and finished the
match in a draw. The Fiorentina ended the 27th match of the season in 12th
place in the Serie A rankings.

Gilardino’s 200th
goal

During the
match against Bari, Gilardino scored the 200th goal of his career. In a press
conference, he said that he dedicated it to his three-year old daughter,
Ginevra.

Jovetic returning
sooner

Viola striker
Stevan Jovetic, who has been out with an injury since the beginning of season,
is expected to return on April 3, when the Fiorentina play away against Cesena.

Natali: more
determination needed

Defender Cesare
Natali held a press conference on March 2 to discuss the team’s disappointing
draw in Bari. Natali explained that something happened to the defense in the
second half, and that the team’s hope for an important win didn’t work out.
Looking forward, Natali said, the team must be more determined to achieve the
positive results they were looking forward to at the beginning of the season.

Antognoni’s day

On March 4,
Fiorentina fans filled up the Mandela Forum to celebrate Giancarlo Antognoni’s
15 year career with the team from 1972-1987. Many Viola players, Montolivo,
Gilardino, Adrian Mutu, Gianluca Comotto and Stevan Jovetic were present as
well.

Fiorentina moves up
the rankings

The Fiorentina
welcomed Catania to Franchi Stadium on March 6th. The day before, head coach
Mihajlovic discussed the match he said his team should simply have ‘competitive
meanness.’  After 21 minutes of play in
the first half, Mutu scored two goals within seven minutes of each other. In
the second half, Gilardino scored a goal, assuring a win for the Fiorentina,
giving the team three points thus allowing them to finish 10th in the Serie A
rankings this week.
