Dai picchia e mena
Common phrase used to indicate resolution of a situation through dogged persistence.
Example: ‘Dai picchia e mena, alla fine ci se’ fatta! Se’ trovato la strada!’ (‘With persistence, in the end, we did it! We found the road!’)
Essere in botta
To be out of one’s head from alcohol, drugs, or just plain tiredness.
Example: ‘Maremma bona! Ma quanto beve? L’è in botta fissa!’ (‘Damn! How much does that guy drink? He’s always out of his head!’)
Attàccati a’ i’ tramme
Literally, to get on the bus. Figuratively, the expression is similar to the Italian ‘arrangiarsi’ (‘do what you’ve got to do’).
Example: ‘Cosa? Tu ti senti male? Te l’avevo detto di un bere ieri sera! Ora tú t’attacchi a’i’ tramme.’ (‘What? You feel sick? I told you not to drink so much last night! You’ll just have to manage somehow.’)
