Celebrating the mud angels

A new documentary offers a detailed look at Florence’s flood of 1966 and the work of the Mud Angels who saved so many of the city’s treasures from ruin. Directed by journalist Erasmo D’Angelis, who is also president of the Tuscan Region’s Territorial and Environment Commission, with assistance from journalist Sandro Bennucci, the 90-minute film is ‘the result of three years of journalistic and historical research. We have included a wealth of never-before-seen images and documents from the archives of RAI, the Italian military and private accounts. This is how we were able to recreate the dramatic hours of November 4, 1966 and the aftermath of the flood’, D’Angelis said. The film was presented by the Mediateca Regionale Toscana Film Commission, in collaboration with TGR Rai Toscana.
