Bottega dei Ragazzi and The Florentine will be working together again in February to offer fun, English-language art workshops for children during the last weekend of the month. These workshops are based on the principle of ‘learning through doing’ and reflect the traditions of Renaissance workshops. Skilled staff from the Istituto degli Innocenti, which has over 600 years of experience in looking after children, guarantee a rich social and cultural experience.

On Saturday, February 28, from 4.30pm to 6pm, Bottega dei Ragazzi offers ‘The art of painting on walls: mural painting techniques and styles’ for children ages 6 to 11. Frescoes and murals have played a fundamental role in the secular decorations of the ancient Ospedale degli Innocenti. By looking at these works of art, the children will find out how the artists at the time planned and carried out their work and what techniques and materials they used. Then they will have a go at recreating parts of the frescoes in the museum, using the age-old techniques of dusting and tracing.

After the workshop, the children are welcome to stay in the Bottega dei Ragazzi from 6pm to 7pm for an hour of supervised play. Parents can participate with the children during the activities or are free to spend the time visiting the museum or enjoying the centre of Florence.

One weekend art workshop costs €10 per child and accompanying adult. Any extra adults must pay for their own tickets. It’s also possible to buy a subscription for several workshops; this can be used either throughout the year or for multiple children per workshop. A subscription for three workshops costs €20 and eight workshops costs €50. The price of the supervised play hour after the workshop is €4.

Bottega dei Ragazzi offers more than art workshops in English.

The Bottega also organizes birthday parties in English.
