‘Foreign’
born painter Giovanni da Milano was one of the protagonists of the
mid-fourteenth century Florentine and Tuscan art scene. He came to the city in
1346 and worked in a variety of churches, including Ognissanti and Santa Croce,
where he completed the frescoes in the Guidalotti-Rinuccini chapel. His 1365
signed and dated Pietà is permanently housed in the Accademia. The exhibit
traces the artist’s work throughout his life-it is a unique opportunity for the
public to get to know this often overlooked yet enormously important artist.
Along with the Uffizi exhibit, these two shows offer an extraordinary panorama
