Two weeks ago, a series of violent incidents by fans in stadiums throughout the country left the football league shocked, and forced it to take drastic measures immediately in order to quell what seemed to be an epidemic of violence. The results during this past weekend of games were highly secured stadiums and low fan turnout in protest of security measures.

The incidents that caused the upheaval began in the north, with the inter-city derby between the two Milanese teams, Inter and Milan. Not only did fans manage to halt the game by throwing numerous flares onto the field, but one of these flares actually hit and injured Milan’s goalkeeper.
