The serial killer who terrorized Florence will soon be the protagonist of a movie.

Roman actor and director Lorenzo Flaherty has bought the film rights to the book, Compagni di sangue, which recounts the investigation of the brutal murders of 8 couples in the Florence area between 1968 and 1985 and the eventual arrest and trial of Pietro Pacciani, the so-called “Mostro di Firenze”.

The book was co-authored by Carlo Lucarelli and Michele Giuttari. Giuttari was actually part of the investigation squad and reveals in his book how inconclusive the investigations really were.

Although an elderly farmer, Pietro Pacciani, was eventually convicted of the murders in 1994, he was to be freed only two years later in 1996 after the court decision was reversed upon claims of insufficient evidence. Before a retrial could begin Pacciani died of natural causes.

Every few years a new piece of evidence reopens this gruesome part of Florence’s recent past and new investigations begin again.
