A first of its kind in Italy, a new public centre for dental health opens on Tuesday, October 16 at villa Margherita, viale Michelangelo. Just minutes from piazzale Michelangelo, the hospital will feature 21 dental units and the latest in dental technological instruments, including a 3D printer and surgical microscope. At full capacity, the facility can perform an impressive 250 services a day, guaranteeing about 50,000,000 visits a year.

Making dental care more accessible was at the core of the project. The public service opens up the possibility of prevention and dental care to those who were previously impeded by the high costs of private dentists. The centre is a true revolution for dental care in Italy, guaranteeing improved services for dental health.

The three-level building has been built on viale dei Colli, on the remains of an 18th century villa with an impressive view of the Florentine hills. Formerly a hospital under the direction of Piero Palagi, a fund of 7.6 million was put towards the restoration of the villa and to equip the hospital with the best of facilities. The most highly specialised surgeries will still be handled at Careggi, meaning that Florence is now equipped with a full range of dental services for all.
